What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture - when you sign up, you are directly supporting us, your local growers early in the season, in return for a weekly food box for the length of the growing season. These programs promote and build local sustainable food systems, bridging the gap betewen consumer and grower, reconnecting people with where their food truly comes from. We are offering a 14 week membership, from July - October curated by us, Kristyn & Bear based on what's in season and ready to harvest.
How does a CSA work?
In exchange for your membership fee, you will receive 14 weeks of delicious and nutritious produce grown by us, Kristyn & Barrett of Folklore Farm in Penetanguishene. We hope to expand our team, because as the farm grow, so too does the amount of work!
We are a small regenerative farm practising no dig, no till, soil building farming. No pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers, no machines! We use only hand tools, and manual labour to sow, weed, harvest and prepare.
Paying for your membership or "share" allots you a share of the harvest for the season, aka a weekly food box. A weekly box is appropriate for a family of 2-4 (depending on your diets)
Upfront payment for the season helps us cover the cost of seeds, tools and equipment for the year. This is a direct relationship with the folks who grow your food, by planning production we are able to meet the demands set for the number of members enrolled in the CSA program. Due to limitations, we will have a very limited amount of shares available. If you're interested, sign up soon, as we anticipate our shares to sell QUICK.
What can you expect?
In the weekly boxes you can find 6-8 items or sometimes more! Take a peek below at the picture gallery for a look @ last years CSA for an idea of what's in season through the program.
The crops we are growing and have grown include greens like arugula, kale, spinach, lettuce and mesclun mix, herbs (basil, cilantro, dill, parsley, chives), beans, beets, carrots, cucumbers, eggplant, edible flowers, melons, onions, peas, hot and sweet peppers, winter and summer squash, garlic, sprouts, radish, swiss chard, tomatoes, turnips, kohlrabi, plus various florals.
Every week you can expect an assortment of the aforementioned produce of what's in season and ready to harvest.
*in leui of fresh produce, we on occasion will include homemade preserves like sun-dried tomatoes, dried herbs, canned or pickled goods, or sauces to meet our target of $35 retail value per week, per box.
Love this experience overall and the journey with you folks ! Can’t wait for next year.2022 CSA Member
